ABSTRACT:
An experimental study was conducted at Little Lourdes Mission Hospital, Kidangoor, Kerala, to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) in managing pain and anxiety during intravenous injection in children aged 3–7 years. A total of 30 children were selected through systematic random sampling and divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental group received a VR intervention for 3–5 minutes during the procedure. Pain and anxiety were measured using the Wong-Baker Faces Pain Scale and the Visual Analogue Anxiety Scale. Results showed significantly lower pain (mean score 2.0) and anxiety (mean score 1.87) in the experimental group compared to the control group (pain mean 8.13; anxiety mean 8.67), with t-values of 10.25 and 12.26, respectively. These findings indicate that VR is highly effective in reducing pain and anxiety in young children undergoing injections.
