ABSTRACT:
Introduction: Iron-deficiency anemia is highly prevalent among adolescent girls due to increased biological demands during growth and menstruation, and insufficient dietary iron intake. Enhancing dietary knowledge can help prevent anemia in this vulnerable stage. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of Video Assisted Teaching (VAT) on knowledge regarding dietary management of anemia among adolescent girls. Methods: A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was adopted among 30 adolescent girls from KV Matriculation School, Sivapuram. Knowledge was assessed using a structured 20-item questionnaire before and after the VAT programme. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Pretest revealed 73.3% of girls had inadequate knowledge and none had adequate knowledge. Posttest showed 63.3% achieved adequate knowledge, whereas only 10% remained inadequate, indicating a significant gain in knowledge following VAT. Discussion: The intervention improved knowledge levels and highlights the importance of school-based nutrition education for preventing anemia among adolescent girls. Conclusion: Video Assisted Teaching is an effective strategy to improve knowledge regarding dietary management of anemia among adolescent girls.
